Blue and Gold Benefit Auction to Support
Kentucky FFA Foundation’s Three Circles

NFMS Exhibitor Reception to Feature Silent and Live Auction

The blue and gold FFA jacket holds special meaning for every FFA member past and present who “believe(s) in the future of agriculture, with a faith born not of words but of deeds.” Yet not every member of the leadership program can afford the approximately $50 cost of the jacket.

“Last year, we had a freshman student apply for a jacket scholarship grant for her brother who was a senior in high school. He had been involved throughout high school, but never had a jacket with his name on it because he knew his family couldn’t afford it,” said Sheldon McKinney, executive director of the Kentucky FFA Foundation. “When his sister realized this opportunity as a freshman, she applied for her brother to have one. That really speaks to the spirit of our program and our students.”

In that spirit of giving and supporting the future of American Agriculture, exhibitors and attendees at the National Farm Machinery Show (NFMS) will have the opportunity to contribute to the Kentucky FFA Foundation during a special Benefit Auction during the NFMS Exhibitor Reception at the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center in Louisville on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 6 to 7 p.m. The auction will be conducted by BigIron Auctions, in partnership with the NFMS and UEDA, to rally support for the Kentucky FFA Foundation’s investment in the Three Circles: FFA, Classroom Agriculture Education and Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE).

Auction proceeds will not be limited to jacket scholarships, but could also include camp scholarships, capital improvement projects, and start-up costs for SAE, which allows students to get started on a career in agriculture or another field.

“Our business and many others who exhibit at the NFMS have rural America and the values and skills instilled through FFA at the heart of our businesses,” said Mark Stock, co-founder and Chairman of the Board at BigIron Auctions, which sells used farm, construction and transportation equipment every Wednesday in unreserved auctions online and is based in St. Edward, Nebraska. “As the creed says, ‘…in the promise of better days through better ways, even as the better things we now enjoy have come to us from the struggles of former years.’”

There are two easy ways that NFMS exhibitors and UEDA-member equipment dealers can join the cause:

  1. DONATE an auction item. We are seeking donations for items, such as fishing, hunting and golfing gear; vacation and entertainment packages; farm, lawn, garden and outdoor recreational vehicles; wine and dine packages; gun safes; smokers; and other miscellaneous items.
  2. ATTEND the auction, bid on and purchase items. Bring your checkbook!
